By following the young people of the town along with their families and friends, the documentary will explore a community with natural warmth and honesty and capture the real-life stories of a British town through the people it is relying on for its future.
Mum and daughter Kat and Kaitlyn have had a tough time over the last few years but have a big summer ahead. Kat is working three jobs to earn enough to keep a roof over their heads, save up for Kaitlyn's college fund and pay for a dress for the biggest night of her life, the school prom.
In episode two of this real life soap opera set in Redcar, North Yorkshire, we catch up with 19-year-old James who is being mentored by local businessman Ray to help keep him out of trouble.
When Ray discovers James has been arrested for a crime he's adamant he didn't commit and could ruin his chances of starting a new life, everyone is hoping James gets the verdict he needs. He has worked so hard to try to turn his life around and be a role model to his younger siblings, and Ray has organised a job interview for him. However, a conviction would mean the company can't give James a full time job.
Fifteen-year-old Safy has been given a 90 per cent scholarship at a top private school in York, the largest scholarship she can get, and could soon be on her way to playing netball for England. But even finding the last 10 per centof fees is going to be hard for single mum Aicha, who is already struggling to provide for Safy's younger brother and sisters. Her netball club is trying to find the money from bake sales and sponsorship from local businesses, but it is not going to be easy.
In the final episode of the series, we meet the Tates, a well-known local family from Redcar. The youngest of the family, Billy, is about to make a tough decision - does he start a career at 16 or go to college? Against his dad Andy's wishes, Billy decides the world of work and the chance to earn money is a far better option.
