The Net is the story of freelance programmer Angela Bennett, who receives a mysterious email which leads her into an internet chat with 'The Sorcerer'. Within minutes, her bank account has been closed, her credit cards have been canceled and she's been arrested. For some reason everyone believes she is Elizabeth Marx, an international criminal of some repute. Everyone she knows is dead and her former life no longer exists for all intents and purposes. However, when she is released by a NSA agent claiming to know who set her up, Angela sets out to prove her innocence while evading the evil forces at work.
Angela Bennett's world is turned upside down after receiving a mysterious e-mail and an unexpected portable computer. The loss of her identity and threats to her life do not deter her from finding out the truth.
Angela receives a tip about her father from someone in Chicago, but she gets arrested at the Columbus airport and must figure out how to evade custody and recover her impounded computer, her only link to Sorcerer.

Trelawney recruits a computer hacker for a scheme to black out the country, and it's up to Angela and her new acquaintance to stop her.
Angela stumbles onto a plot to control the nation's agriculture. Along with way, she also runs into a teen claiming to be the Sorcerer.
Angela and Jacob uncover the Praetorians' plot to profit from a stolen diamond, which they arrange to place in a museum, insure---then steal.
An environmentalist disappears while trying to prove a corporation is dumping waste into the ocean, and Jacob enlists Angela to search for him.
Representatives from a music company are killing any music critics who might write unfavorable reviews of bands the business handles.
A college student's Web site contains a picture of Angela's parents, which draws her to the student's dorm. What Angela doesn't know is that she's being set up by the Praetorians.
Jacob's gambling habits get him into trouble, so Angela figures out a way to manipulate a Praetorian casino to dig him out of debt.
Jacob wins a contest run by a motivational speaker who warns against the Praetorians, but Jacob's trip to meet him turns into an effort to find the man's kidnappers.
