The Questor Tapes

Series pilot episode created by Gene Roddenberry and starring Robert Foxworth as Questor, an android with incomplete programming, who embarks on a search for his missing memory tapes in order to understand who really created him and the true purpose for his existence on Earth.

A 13 part run was actually greenlit by the tv executives, but Roddenberry was unhappy about the changes that they wanted to make to the show, so he pulled out of the production and the series was never made. He later evolved his idea of an android wishing to become more human into the character of Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation.
