Jean White is an antiques dealer who runs a successful business with her husband, Rory. But when he suddenly dies and leaves her nearly penniless, Jean relocates to their one remaining asset - a cottage in French antiques hub Saint Victoire - and begins investigating Rory's mysterious death.
Jean and Dom prepare to tie the knot, but nothing can prepare them for the unexpected obstacles standing in their way. With their Christmas Eve wedding drawing closer, the village is shaken by the murder of Mayor Stephanie Arquette, whose body is discovered in the historic fountain. The killing comes at a particularly sensitive moment - controversial redevelopment plans are about to change the square, and tensions around the work have divided local opinion. Jean is soon drawn into Caron's investigation.
Jean is drawn into murder when Julietta Moncrief is found wearing a black pearl necklace she sold to Dr David Stephan as an anniversary gift for his wife. Helping Caron trace it, Jean uncovers jealousy, betrayal and conflicting stories. Meanwhile, Claudie tries to escape controlling Marco, leaving Dom fearing confrontation.
A valuable bronze by sculptor Leopold Chauveau, known as the Monstre, brings serious trouble to Brodeur & White when it is stolen from the shop and Simone is attacked by an intruder. The incident is disturbingly close to home, leaving Jean and Charlie to question whether someone from the antiques world has deliberately targeted them.
