Next Episode of The Smoking Room is
not planed. TV Show was canceled.
Writer Brian Dooley has created a rich pageant of life in the tiny Petri dish of the Smoking Room. Big on witty dialogue, short on plot, the Smoking Room ran for two series and a Christmas special. It was understated and gentle, but not in a mumsy billowy way – the show definitely had edges. And then sometimes it went beyond them.
Barry thinks his promotion is in the bag, but his chances may not be as strong as he'd hoped. The other smokers are hardly supportive, obsessed as they are with trying to remember the theme tune to The Little House of the Prairie instead.
A colleague drops dead shortly after retiring from work. His sudden death has everybody musing about their own mortality.
The posters are up. Sharon the MD wants everyone to go paintballing, and Janet has been despatched to collect the names of those attending. But with the events of the weekend to discuss the workforce have other concerns.
Robin has lost his lighter, much to the annoyance of an important, nicotine-deprived client. Someone is bound to come in with one soon. Aren't they?
It's Valentine's day. Someone has left a box of chocolates for one of the smokers. But just who exactly is lucky in love? Meanwhile, Heidi has returned from maternity leave with 'interesting' photos of her new baby.
It's a rainy lunch hour and everyone is stuck in with nothing to do, apart from Janet who has been instructed to fetch Sharon's lunch a task she seems unusually reluctant to do.
It's the holiday season and everyone is looking forward to getting away - apart from Barry, with his fear of all forms of transport. Meanwhile, a glamorous new temp is threatening to drive a wedge between the smokers.
It's party time in the smoking room. Lilian is due a birthday surprise she will never forget, and Robin is hoping Ben from the Post Room will finally turn up.
