Three Up, Two Down is a British sitcom starring Michael Elphick and Angela Thorne that ran for 4 seasons from April 15, 1985 - June 18, 1989.Nick and Angie have just had a baby, and to help them financially they decide to rent out the basement. Both Nick's father, Sam Tyler, and Angie's mother, Daphne Trenchard, want the basement apartment and the only solution is to share. Sam is a Cockney, while Daphne is Cheltenham-bred and has not forgiven her daughter for marrying Nick, a 'common' photographer. Both Sam and Daphne are widowed, and stubborn.
Much to Daphne's delight, Sam has packed up taxidermy, but to her disgust has taken up with Rhonda, their next-door neighbour.
Angie is becoming successful as a model and Nick is pursuing a career as a photo-journalist.
Sam's friendship with Rhonda is growing and Nick is determined to continue photographing the family for his article. Meantime Daphne is playing emotional games.
Sam and Daphne discover a new kind of friendship, creating a problem for Sam and Rhonda. Nick is concerned about Rob and Angie but is still determined to go through with his article.
Sam, having arranged a surprise for Daphne, is disappointed to discover she is not free. Worried, he decides to find out why.
While Angie is psyching herself up for her commercial test, Daphne is also preparing for something very important, and has Sam's full support.
Nanny Parker 's invitation to lunch in Cheltenham includes Sam. The visit goes very well - but not the journey back to London.
