A journalist returns to her hometown to solve a murder.
1995. Bomb. Death. Sentence. Now, after 20 years in prison for murdering his cousin Llyr, Rhys Owen is back in Llanemlyn - he is older, quieter, but he still keeps secrets. As new protests begin due to the expansion of the water reservoir, Caryl Huws, a journalist in training, begins to ask the wrong questions.
As Caryl digs deeper, she comes across Mabli, a young activist who is protesting against the expansion of a water reservoir. Eve finds herself increasingly cornered as Caryl's investigation progresses. Rhys' journey for answers leads him into conflict with Eve, triggering revelations that threaten to replace the town's long-held truths.
Caryl tries to return the documents related to her investigation to Gillian, admitting that she feels like she has been twisting the facts and that she is not the right person to tell the story. Gillian encourages her not to give up so easily.
Caryl relentlessly pursues the truth, questioning Eve, Rhys, and Robert, trying to reveal their part in the tragic event. Mabli's secret paternity test upsets the family dynamic, a revelation that threatens to unravel the family. Eve's desperation to protect her past has dire consequences.
The community mourns one of its stalwarts and Eve is tormented by guilt, while Mabli voices her criticism of water reservoirs by reciting a poem at the funeral. Mabli joins Hari to stand against the expansion of the reservoir.
As Caryl gets to the bottom of what happened the night of Llyr's death, Rhys challenges his father, Bryn, to reveal his connection to Llyr and the bombing. Hari makes the difficult decision to leave Llanemlyn, in order to start anew.
