Daily life at Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham, one of the busiest A&E departments in Europe. Professional superbike rider Max is rushed in after sustaining a head injury in a high-speed motorcycle crash at a racetrack. Seventy-five-year-old Stephanie has fallen down a full flight of stairs at home, and 62-year-old Garry has come to A&E after slicing off two fingers chopping up firewood.
Staff in Major Trauma at Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham are overstretched and pushed to the limit as they face ever-increasing patient numbers. Jeremy and Patricia are admitted with multiple injuries following a high-speed car crash. Doctors are concerned that Jeremy's history of cancer could affect his recovery, while the emergency team tries to determine the full extent of Patricia's spinal injury. Andrew, 45, is in resus after falling three metres from a ladder at work and seriously fracturing his ankle. Medics need to re-align his bones before emergency surgery.
Ninety-two-year old Mary is rushed in to Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham having been trapped under her car. Second World War veteran Norman, who's 95, is in resus with a dangerously low heart rate, and four-year-old George has come to the children's emergency department with his dad after getting a stone mysteriously stuck up his nose while playing football.
Andy, 36, is brought in after a motorcycle accident with a fractured femur that needs realignment. Staff fear 27-year-old Connor, who has fallen off a roof, may have bleeding on his brain. In the urgent treatment unit, 25-year-old Adrian has suffered injuries to his face and been bitten on his arm after breaking up a fight in the city centre.
