Paramedics bring in care home manager Kirsty, who has fallen over at a petrol station, and landed badly on her arm. In Paediatrics 15-year-old Layton is brought in by stepmum Jodie after he injured his arm at school. He has a deep wound and if his arm is broken, he may need emergency surgery.
Former nurse Sandra is brought in with a suspected dislocated ankle after falling down the stairs at her home. Consultant Doctor Chris Young is triaging in the ambulance bay and sends her straight to resus. Paramedics rush in 70-year-old Tony, who has a dangerously low heart rate. Dr Melissa Hirst orders an urgent chest x-ray, but Tony's too poorly to be moved, so the radiographers come to him.
During the night shift at Barnsley Casualty, a ceiling pipe burst and the whole back area had to be shut down. The last thing the team need is a large influx of patients, but there are more arriving all the time. Paramedics bring in 82-year-old Valerie who suffered a fall in her kitchen. There's also 78-year-old caretaker Pete, who has chest pains and dangerously low oxygen levels.
Winter pressures have hit Barnsley Casualty, resulting in a worrying increase in patient numbers. Mandy has been bleeding heavily from her nose for over three hours, losing a pint of blood just in the ambulance. Dr Darya Pospyelova is called in to look after her. Emergency nurse practitioner Tony cares for nine-year-old Harry, who has slipped over and hurt his wrist during in PE at school.
