Bangers & Cash follows the Mathewsons - a dynasty of classic car auctioneers from picturesque North Yorkshire. The charismatic and friendly family hunt for rare vehicles to sell and they uncover some remarkable and heartwarming stories behind the cars as they do.
Derek discovers the holy grail of Austin Mini barn finds, a rare and valuable 1965 Cooper "S" 1275cc. The car has been hidden in a garage full of rubbish for 30 years and appears to be a worthless rusty wreck, but on auction day it generates a flood of interest and a bidding war among classic Mini enthusiasts. Meanwhile, faced with a deadline to get a late entry into the auction catalogue, Paul decides he'd like a Bentley Continental for himself and attempts to persuade his wife it would be perfect for the school run. And a fan of 1950's Americana faces a difficult choice as two Chevy Stepside pickup trucks go under the hammer.
A rare and valuable 80's Sierra Cosworth "whale tail" draws in a crowd of admiring fast Ford fans, but has the owner pitched the reserve too high? Also, Derek reluctantly decides to sell some of his own classic car collection to make space in the showroom before visiting Britain's biggest one day motorcycle event. And a restorer delights buyers with his immaculate 1966 Sunbeam Rapier and Sarah takes a shine to a quirky micro-caravan.
A slice of Yorkshire classic car history rolls into the showroom. Derek dives into the archive of the lost Jowett marque as the Bradford built ‘52 Javelin finds an unexpected home. Paul and Dave uncover a Ford Escort that's been untouched for 30 years. The barn find sparks a bidding frenzy. Meanwhile, a teenage buyer takes a punt on a cheap MGB GT in poor condition. A Mathewson's customer reveals his elaborate man cave tucked away in his garage and office manager Sarah discovers that classic car and dog ownership don't always mix.
A very orange 1970's Bond Bug three-wheeler divides opinion among Mathewsons customers but delights the Bond owners club. A retired engineer reluctantly auctions off his late father's treasured 60's Jaguar MkII. He's had the car in his garage for 30 years but hasn't been able to part with the memories it holds. The owner of a Rover P6 sells the car he lovingly rebuilt for his daughter's wedding and is philosophical despite losing thousands of pounds on the restoration.
Mathewsons agree to sell a vintage threshing machine and collection of tractors, but extracting them from a Yorkshire farm proves a bigger job than anticipated.
A Cold War Soviet classic goes under the hammer. Built like a tank, the Mosckovitch gets few admirers for style, but finds a home with a fan of Eastern Bloc classics.
Derek collects a Mark 2 Jag and explains why they made such poor getaway cars for bank robbers. A customer considers a Morris Marina as a present for his wife.
The team have a record number of cars to auction, but Derek finds room for one more - a replica AC Cobra. A couple are reunited with their Volvo breakdown truck.
A classic car fan with a love of the Jaguar E-Type reluctantly sends his dream car to auction, hoping to buy a motorhome. Two Ford Escorts get Dave's pulse racing.
Derek collects a cherished Jaguar MkII and explains why they made such poor getaway cars for 1960's bankrobbers. Customers play find the gear box after the arrival of one of Britain's most scrapped cars, the Morris Marina. A customer weighs it up as a Christmas present for his wife. and Dave collects a selection of quirky cars and three wheelers to go under the hammer -including a Morgan, a Noble 200 and a Goggomobile.
