Designer Charlie Luxton helps people build their dream homes which are amazing and affordable.
In the first episode, Charlie's in the Cotswolds, helping Mandy and Tony Slater to build their dream home directly opposite their old one. They've always wanted to self-build but couldn't face leaving the neighbourhood. So when a plot came on the market they snapped it up immediately. The land is on a steep slope, and as the build gets going, the groundworks threaten to derail their modest budget. Charlie's on hand to offer help and support, but Tony and Mandy are sceptical about some of his ideas.
Charlie Luxton has a unique project on his hands helping Barbara build a home in Peebles in Scotland, where the whole ground floor is devoted to stables for her horses. Novice Barbara will be project managing, with help from boyfriend David. To keep costs down they live in a caravan on site, but their resolve is tested by the Scottish winter and temperatures of minus 10. The budget is tight and Charlie tries to help Barbara to make savings. But when she runs out of cash, the build is left hanging in the balance.
Charlie Luxton is in Birmingham helping Paul and Ruby Singh to simplify their lives. Having spent the last seven years living hundreds of miles apart, Paul and Ruby are about to build a large family home together. It's going to be a contemporary house with lots of glazing and a deluxe kitchen. But despite Ruby hoping to keep a tight grip on the purse strings, the budget goes out the window. Charlie tries to help rein things in; but he's got his work cut out.
Charlie Luxton heads to the Isle of Wight to help mother and daughter Tracy and Mimi design and build a new home together. Tracy and Mimi want to create a stylish contemporary house. Eleven-year-old Mimi could be Charlie's toughest client yet. The budget is under pressure from day one, but they battle towards completion... until disaster strikes.
Charlie Luxton heads to Cornwall to help Peter and Mollie Goodman build a continental kit home with coastal views. But his suggestions are met with scepticism; and there are problems with the foundations.
Charlie Luxton heads to rural Buckinghamshire to help Kat Dancer and her contemporary farmhouse. Kat has always wanted to build on the farm where she grew up and Charlie's on hand with bright ideas to make the most of the idyllic plot. But things get tough when Kat is left to manage the project alone, leaving the whole construction hanging in the balance.
Charlie Luxton heads to Cornwall to help serial renovators Neil and Suzie with a huge contemporary build that is not just set to be very grand, but Suzie wants it finished by Christmas. Plus, when all is said and done, Neil and Suzie must decide if this is actually to be their final home after all.
In south Wales, Jodie and Rhodri Howells can't decide what to do with their countryside plot. They want to build a contemporary family home, but can't decide what to do with the 1950s bungalow currently on the site. Do they remodel and renovate or knock down and start again? Charlie Luxton's on hand to guide them through the pros and cons and to help them achieve the look they want on a modest budget.
In Lincolnshire, Juana and Trevor Jones plan to knock down some 300-year-old, decrepit barns, then reuse the materials to build their dream home for a stylish retirement - all on a shoestring. Charlie Luxton is highly sceptical about their ú100k budget, but, as demolition gets underway, cash is not the biggest concern. Ex-builder Trevor is determined to be hands-on and refuses to down tools even when he's facing a lifesaving operation, leaving his wife Juana wondering whether he'll survive to finish the project. But Trevor insists that things have to be done his way.
