Gareth Blackstock (Lenny Henry) is a master chef with an obsessive drive for culinary perfection, with no friends or outside interests other than his wife Janice, (Caroline Lee-Johnson) and remarkable verbal talents used primarily to creatively abuse his unfortunate staff of assistant cooks, although he is perfectly prepared to give the same treatment to waiters, management, suppliers, bankers, and, occasionally, customers.
There's a hiring, a firing and a spot of fishing in store at Le Chateau Anglais.
The atmosphere at Le Chateau Anglais reaches boiling point when Janice suspects there might be a new addition to the Blackstock household. She puts Gareth's sudden potency down to his fishing in sub-zero temperatures. But is Gareth really ready for fatherhood?
To what lengths will Gareth Blackstock, best chef in Britain and probably the world, go to acquire the best ingredients for his acclaimed dishes?
Janice is furious with Gareth when he doesn 't give her any credit on a live television show. And Everton risks his job when he musters the courage to teach his boss a few things about amour.
Everton creates a new signature dish? Before he becomes internationally renowned, Gareth and Janice concoct a plan to keep the budding masterchef in his place.
Gareth is in the stew this week when it seems his entire kitchen staff have brought their personal problems to work on the same day. With the restaurant fully booked for lunch and dinner, he is willing to play social worker if only to get them all back on the job.
Gareth has to prove he is the best chef in Britain by winning an international cookery competition in Lyon, France. Will he win and make his respected culinary peers eat sauteed crow? Or will the Frenchies nobble the "rosbif"?
