Arina Alferova, a regional health ministry official, has a comfortable life: a nice apartment in the city center, a decent car, a morning hairdo, shopping trips to Moscow, jewelry, and expensive shoes. After all, the head of the finance and economics department can afford a few things. And sometimes even more than a few. Especially if your lover does business with the region's largest pharmaceutical company. What in return? A few signatures on contracts. Preoccupied with her personal life, she doesn't notice the cost of each signature. One day, a bitter retribution hits her too close to home: a loved one dies from counterfeit pills. So the official decides to infiltrate the corrupt chain of command, reaching the very top—the minister—and bringing everyone down.
