Classmates

“Classmates” was a reality TV series in collaboration between “20th Century FOX Television Corporation” and the Internet site classmates.com. Classmates.com claimed they had a collection of over 35 Million names in their Database to select from. Its’ very possible that if their claim was true then they were the biggest organization in the World on the Internet with that many contacts? The series was a summer replacement show that “FOX” rolled out to a few selected owner-operated stations in selected Major TV markets like Chicago, Los Angeles and New York. They wanted to test the waters so to speak to see if the show would get a good enough response to roll it out as a regular series Nationwide in 2004. The show was essentially a rip-off of the “WB” TV reality series “High School Reunion” that had debuted this same year on the 5th of January. The “WB” series was about one single graduating class from the same high school year. They would invite 13 to 18 students from that year’s class to live in a very luxurious Condo in beautiful Maui, Hawaii not knowing whom the others were that would also be staying there. Each person had no idea that the other contestants in this "game" were all from their same graduating class 10 years before until they were all brought together at one time. They were required to stay together for a 2-week period where they competed against each other, had some fun, got some sun and maybe a little extra curricular activity as well on the side? The series would show 2 days and nights of their activity each week for 7 weeks to complete the entire 14-day process. Almost all of the females were very pretty and some of the males were hunks and almost all of them wanted to get to know each other better now then they may have known them 10 years ago. Little groups or cliques were formed, hatred and jealousy reared its’ ugly head, arguments and fights sometimes broke out and all of this combined made for a very interesting TV show to watch. “Classmates” however was different in that the show took one individual person who was searching for an old friend they hadn’t seen in 10 years or longer. It could have been an old schoolmate, an old Army friend or buddy or just some old acquaintance that they had lost touch with over the years. The person that was doing the searching was filmed as they continued their search process and they also had their life profiled. The person they were searching for had no clue that someone was looking for them until the two finally met again face to face. “Classmates” premiered on Monday night, 30 June 2003 at 8:30 PM E.S.T. and the series ran until 21 October 2003. “FOX” TV’s version of the reunion thing was very boring and fewer and fewer viewers watched each week. It was determined that the show was a complete failure and was removed from consideration of ever becoming a regular series ever again.
