Cold Case is a drama about Lilly Rush, an enigmatic and highly effective detective on the Philadelphia Homicide Squad. Rush's instinctive understanding of the criminal mind and her singular passion for uncovering the truth makes her the perfect fit for investigating cold cases, yester-crimes that have remained unsolved - some only a few months old, others going back decades. Rush and her team use their wits to take on aging evidence and witnesses with buried secrets, uncovering fresh clues, digging into old wounds and doggedly pursuing the truth.
The fifth season begins with Lilly returning to work just weeks after being shot. She reopens a 1994 triple-murder case in which three boys were beaten to death. Two teens were convicted of the crimes but Lilly suspects they may have been innocent.

The probe reveals the victim was accused of date-rape by several former students before he was fatally shot, but their initial complaints were ignored by the police and the college-administration staff.
The 1945 murder of a Japanese-American man who moved his family to Philadelphia after he was released from a California internment camp is investigated; and Lily tries to get Stillman to withdraw his retirement papers.
