High Value Target: The Hunt for Saddam is the story about a man's relentless quest for truth, a nation's complicated campaign for justice, and the bonds between fathers and sons. It tells, for the first time, the intimate story of two men at the heart of one of the 21st Century's most formative conflicts. In 2003, John Nixon, a CIA analyst became the first American to positively identify and interrogate Saddam Hussein. During their time together, Nixon began to understand the potential consequences of the invasion, the humanitarian horrors and geopolitical turbulences that would follow Saddam's deposing.
America invades Iraq, and Saddam Hussein vanishes. CIA analyst John Nixon mobilizes a task force to find him. On the embattled streets of Baghdad, Captain Samir hunts door to door for High Value Target No. 1.
Six months into the war, and still no sign of Saddam Hussein. John talks his way to Baghdad, with Samir assigned as his translator. John identifies a target with answers, leading him into the Red Zone.
Inside Abu Ghraib, John presses Saddam Hussein's cousin for the dictator's whereabouts. Unprepared, John gets drafted onto the chopper headed for operation Red Dawn.
John comes face to face with Saddam Hussein. All the while, the Insurgents remount their attacks. Baghdad burns.
In defiance of orders, John forges his way into hostile territory and ends up in a chase for his life.
After following Saddam's warning, John returns from Najaf with the unwavering conviction that the real threat is Iran. Now he must convince the most powerful leaders in the United States Government to believe him.
After two years and no WMDs, Iraq is in chaos and the White House is under political siege. With Saddam on trial, and John Nixon convinced the ousted tyrant holds the key to peace in the region, Nixon struggles to persuade the CIA to intervene and save Hussein's life.
