Doctors is a British medical soap opera which first broadcast in the United Kingdom on BBC One on 27 March 2000. Set in the fictional Midlands town of Letherbridge, defined as being close to the city of Birmingham, the soap follows the staff and their families of a doctor's surgery.
Doctors is produced by BBC Birmingham and is screened on BBC One, with the first episode broadcast on 27 March 2000. It was created by Chris Murray, with Mal Young developing it and Carson Black the original producer. The show has been shown at lunchtime since its inception, originally at 12.30pm as a lead-in to the BBC's One O'Clock News. After it was temporarily moved to allow for extended news coverage of the September 11th 2001 attacks, its regular slot changed to 2:10 pm, following directly after Neighbours, after ratings rose to a 25% audience share. When the BBC lost Neighbours to Channel 5 in January 2008, it moved into the Australian soap's old slot of 1:45pm. For a brief trial period in Summer 2000, selected episodes from the first series were shown on Fridays at 7 pm and from 16 February 2009, the show began transmitting in high definition on BBC HD at 4:00pm the same day. Mrs Tembe reluctantly hosts a dinner party, while Jimmi finds himself alone with Megan working late.
Does Mrs Tembe have anything more to worry about? She visits a clinic to find out. Jimmi and Megan come to realise that their differing branches of medicine are not mutually exclusive.
In the aftermath of a terrible accident, the clock is ticking for Rob and Sid to help the people involved. Ruhma meets a pregnant woman who wants to date.
News of the accident filters back to the Mill, but Sid's reaction surprises them all. Elsewhere, Rob insists he is fine, and Zara tries a bit too hard to be Emma's friend. Karen mixes up two patients who are brothers, leaving Heston to deal with the repercussion when he reveals a serious diagnosis to the wrong man.
Valerie gets support from her colleagues, but all is not as it seems. Rob is called in to discuss the accident and faces further pressure at work when trying to solve a series of pharmacy robberies.
Mrs Tembe and JJ's celebrations hit the right note, while Sid shrinks when he faces Megan in a therapy session. Ayesha encounters more than one familiar face when meeting up with an old colleague.
JJ has a life-changing offer for Mrs Tembe - will she follow her head or her heart? Zara takes Emma shoe-shopping and tries teaching her to put fashion before comfort.
A hard decision is put in front of Rob and Karen, while Mrs Tembe and JJ try to work out the future. Al treats a patient with diabetes, but something isn't right. Can he work out what it is in time?
Rob and Karen struggle to cope with baby Marnie. Have they taken on too much this time? JJ still hopes Mrs Tembe might change her mind and move abroad with him. Daniel tends to an elderly and vulnerable patient, but she rails against all his efforts to help her. Can Daniel win her round?
Rob continues to bottle up his emotions despite things heating up at the Hollins house. Whilst Sid considers if he needs to see Megan again. Zara is troubled by a locum GP who has made an impossible deal, and now needs to pay up.
Daniel offers Jimmi some dating advice, but will the object of his affections reciprocate? Mrs Tembe visits Karen, can they finally put their differences behind them? Heston encounters workplace bullying at a hotel and causes an impact with his customer feedback.
What should be a walk in the park turns into a living nightmare for Rob, whilst Sid reveals a dirty little secret to Emma. When a vulnerable patient is faced with eviction, Megan has to act fast to ensure they don't lose more than just their home.
