Doctors is a British medical soap opera which first broadcast in the United Kingdom on BBC One on 27 March 2000. Set in the fictional Midlands town of Letherbridge, defined as being close to the city of Birmingham, the soap follows the staff and their families of a doctor's surgery.
Doctors is produced by BBC Birmingham and is screened on BBC One, with the first episode broadcast on 27 March 2000. It was created by Chris Murray, with Mal Young developing it and Carson Black the original producer. The show has been shown at lunchtime since its inception, originally at 12.30pm as a lead-in to the BBC's One O'Clock News. After it was temporarily moved to allow for extended news coverage of the September 11th 2001 attacks, its regular slot changed to 2:10 pm, following directly after Neighbours, after ratings rose to a 25% audience share. When the BBC lost Neighbours to Channel 5 in January 2008, it moved into the Australian soap's old slot of 1:45pm. For a brief trial period in Summer 2000, selected episodes from the first series were shown on Fridays at 7 pm and from 16 February 2009, the show began transmitting in high definition on BBC HD at 4:00pm the same day. Hayden meets a man who is desperate to feel happy again. Elsewhere, Mrs Tembe ponders about the meaning of happiness. Zara begins to doubt her decision.
After helping a patient save an abandoned bird's egg, Zara soon realises the patient's anxiety has more to do with his failings as a parent. Elsewhere, Mrs Tembe's mood soars as she launches Project Happiness. Are Al and Howard considering flying the nest?

It is the day of the Challenge Max for Emma, Ayesha and Niamh however it is not what they were expecting. Al comes between a patient and his carer.
The aftermath of the Challenge Max celebrations has Al feeling some discomfort. Jimmi becomes between two men fighting at an allotment.
Anthony starts his first day as practice manager. Mrs Tembe makes her return to the reception desk. Ayesha heads back to her old address to collect some post.

Jimmi heads to the scene at a horrific roadside collision. On the site of the incident, he learns that the accident is linked to a major police operation. Ruhma is shocked when she learns more about Heston's past. Mrs. Tembe is shocked after Anthony proposes something to her.
Emma visits a old woman who hasn't left her home in years. Al and Valerie perform. Mrs Tembe isn't happy with Anthony.

Ruhma gives Daniel a business masterclass at a house-clearance sale. Meanwhile, Mrs Tembe puts up a list of stalls for the summer fayre, but will she be successful in attracting willing volunteers?
