They offer information on the locality and restaurants with regional specialties, and often sell local crafts and delicacies for travelers to take home. A stop at one or more of these spots helps to make any road trip in Japan unforgettable.
Our journey takes us through Hokkaido's winter southwest to Hakodate,
where history meets one of Japan's most breathtaking night views.
Departing from Sendai Station in Miyagi, we drive along the Pacific coast to Sanriku. Struck by a devastating tsunami, the region has risen with resilience, 15 years on.
