Following her on-air sabotage of a testy television news anchorwoman, writer Maya Gallo suddenly finds herself out on the street. Unable to find a job and facing eviction from her apartment, she takes the advice of her roommate Wally and goes to see her estranged father, women's magazine editor Jack Gallo, for help. However, in order to see him, she must first run a gauntlet created by Jack's staff at Blush, including his assistant Dennis Finch, former model Nina Van Horn and head photographer Elliot Dimauro.
Jack hires a woman off the street to run the desk, but the staff thinks it's just because Jack wants to seduce her.
Vicky and Finch fight for Jacks approval, while Nina loses a crazy woman in the office.
Nina dates a rock star and tries not to sleep with him on the first date. Maya tries to get Vicky to open up about her broken marriage. Jack gets a pocket watch, and gifts Elliott with a wristwatch to persuade him to stop using his own pocket watch.
Nina throws an A-list Halloween party and reluctantly invites the Blush team. Jack and Finch fight for the affections of a new model with Jack trying to use magic to win her. Maya helps Elliott realize that the only reason he keeps arguing with Vicky is because he likes her. Nina becomes jealous of her new boyfriend Simon and one of his old lovers.
Eliot tries to date Vicki but ends up with her sister, Jack sets up cameras to keep an eye on everyone, while he's at home recovering from his foot surgery.
Vicky's husband returns to beg for her forgiveness and Maya finds herself very attracted to him. Elliott helps Nina make Simon jealous with an incriminating photograph. Jack goes on a diet, but Finch keeps feeding him fatty foods so stops being cranky.
Maya ghostwrites a poem for Finch so he won't flunk out of college. Jack is impressed by the poem and rewards Finch even though Maya is responsible for it. Nina gets a chance to model again for Vicky's new idea for an article, which brings out a terrible side in both her and Elliott.
Elliott becomes extremely arrogant when one of his artistic photos is published in a photography magazine. Vicky and Nina are forced to work together on a project, Finch convinces Nina that Vicky is a lesbian and has feelings for her. Finch tries to get Jack to let him come to dinner with George Lucas.
Vicki reconciles with her former husband Pete, but he seems confused because he also has the hots for Maya. When Finch wants a reserved parking space, Elliott discovers his plan and seeks to make sure that it does not work.
A former fashion model finds herself very confused by Finch's behavior. Meanwhile, Jack tries to bond with Nina's new boyfriend, a British rock star.
Finch's father accepts a job as Jack's chauffeur. Meanwhile, Elliott tries to get revenge against an insult comic who has made Elliott his latest target. A meeting with a past boyfriend of Maya's has her very nervous.
Finch forgets to tell Jack about an important meeting with foreign clients, so he assumes Jack's identity and attempts to close a deal without Jack's knowledge. Meanwhile, Nina and her rock star boyfriend Simon force themselves to go clean in an attempt to get Nina's hard partying granddaughter to change her ways, and Elliott seizes an opportunity to confront his high school bully.
Finch attends his reunion with his pal Bert, now a transsexual named Brandi. Maya and Elliott decide to become friends with benefits.
Rivalry over a charity event leads to tension between Jack and a fellow magnate, whose comely assistant gets hot and heavy with Finch.
Simon is prepared to ask Nina to marry him, but she's been married for 8 years to flaky Roland Devereaux and asks Elliott for moral support in asking for a divorce. Jack finds a perfect guy for Maya, but she falls for someone else.
Good hearted Elliott discusses business strategies with his con artist brother Donnie. Nina enters a fierce game of chance with Jack.
The outrageous behavior between Finch and his sexy partner galls Maya, who sets out to rein in the stallion. Also: Jack and Maya compete for an office cleaner's favor in a feud that gets way out of hand.
Simon's parents arrive to meet with Nina, who pretends to be prim and proper. Elliott rents an apartment next to Jack.
Maya hires a new intern who turns out to be a bitter 45-year-old; Jack helps Nina plan her wedding; Finch unleashes his charm on Elliott's Bible study group.
Nina feels threatened by Skyler, an old fling of Simon. Skyler would be the minister at their wedding reception. Meanwhile Maya has found the perfect man, who turns out to be a senior in High School.
Jack suddenly announces his retirement and puts Maya in charge, he tries to escape an office farewell party in his honor.
Jack asks the staff to evaluate his work anonymously. Nina ends up with a sprained ankle after a walk.
Nina takes under her wing the female impersonator who's portraying her in a cabaret show.
Nina's friend Binny appears from the dead to tell her that she will cheat on Simon. Jack is attracted to the feminist who is threatening a boycott of Blush. Finch and Elliot become rivals over a mutual male friend whom they both have an emotional connection with.
