Polly and Dennis meet Mary at Westbourne Hall. They encounter Vivienne Belling, who resembles the spy on the poster.
Belling claims she is a government photographer but the children are convinced she is a spy. Meanwhile, Mary overhears a suspicious conversation between Miss Millington and Grainger. And Dennis and Polly find themselves in trouble as they spot a German plane - on fire and heading straight for them!
Norman sees Grainger giving Belling a package. Mary searches Westbourne Hall for evidence that Grainger is a spy. Norman gets a nice surprise for his birthday.
The children are responsible for the capture of the German pilot. Mary is determined to find out what Grainger is up to, and follows him on one of his nighttime excursions.
