Local comedy writers Dave Armstrong, Danny Mulheron and Tom Scott have gone deep into the dungeons of their collective consciousness and unleashed their favourite bulldog one more time - Mortimer Ellis Gormsby is back, in a new series of Seven Periods With Mr Gormsby.

Things have gone downhill at Tepapawai High School since Gormsby (David McPhail) was sacked and driven out of the grounds to a rousing haka from the bad boys of 5F, and the gibbering wreck of a Principal Roger Dasent (Paul McLaughlin) carted off to the loony bin in an ambulance.

The slippery scheming Steve (Jason Hoyte) from guidance who engineered this chain of events is finally learning the truth of the ancient Chinese curse, 'may all your dreams come true' when he finds himself in charge of a school where gambling, pornography, and drug abuse are spiralling out of control - and that's just the staff!

In this latest series, Gormsby solves a car bombing, coaches the first XV in their annual game against the local prison, organises a school camp and uses ballroom dancing to teach the boys gallantry, along with his regular classroom duties. When the possible amalgamation of Tepapawai High with the local girls' school comes up, Gormsby has to address the sticky subject of the opposite sex.

The first series of Seven Seven Periods With Mr Gormsby has been a big hit across the ditch.

"My daughter, who is studying in Melbourne, reported back to me that fellow students now spout Gormsby monologues at parties," says Tom Scott. "When Australian sports fans descended on the capital earlier this year for the sevens tournament, they cleaned out the stores of the series one DVD. There are dozens of blog sites in Oz devoted to Gormsby and the tone almost universally is one of admiring disbelief. 'Can you believe it?' they ask, 'Why can't we do this?'

Mr Gormsby has also garnered good reviews in the Australian press: 'Enough to make me laugh shamelessly', Sydney Morning Herald; 'Not since Father Ted has there been a television series so willing to trample on every kind of sensibility and so triumphantly gets away with it, The Age; 'A devastatingly witty spoof of the New Zealand Education system', The Courier Mail.

The usual suspects return in series two - as well as McPahil, McLaughlin and Hoyte, Seven Periods With Mr Gormsby features Tandi Wright, Geraldine Brophy, Louis Sutherland and Grace Hoet.
