Seven years marks a point in many marriages when couples find themselves restless and dissatisfied; and some even wonder what it would be like if they had picked a different spouse. Seven Year Switch will follow the journey of four couples who have hit a breaking point in their marriage. Each of the couples, who have not had children as of yet, will participate in an innovative experiment of switch therapy, in which they swap partners and partake in experimental marriages. Two relationship experts will help guide the couples through the switch therapy process, as they adjust to living with an experimental spouse. Will their temporary partners be able to fill the void they've been yearning for, or will they discover that the grass isn't always greener? At the end of the month-long experiment, each of the married couples will reunite and make the decision: to either part ways and divorce, or reaffirm their commitment and renew their vows.
The participants meet the person they'll be living with in an experimental marriage; there are gut-wrenching revelations as they view confessions from their partners.
The new couples attempt to get to know each other while dealing with unexpected attractions and a new living situation.
The experimental couples face a challenge to practice giving and receiving, that takes some of them out of their comfort zones, and makes others too comfortable; tensions rise when the couples are shown videos of what their real spouses are up to.
The couples are forced to share tighter quarters while on an overnight getaway and engage in an intimacy exercise that has mixed results.
As the halfway mark of the experiment approaches, the couples become emotionally invested. The couples receive a visit from the experts, who share some surprising news.
Before the couples get sent home, they meet their experimental spouses' real spouse; not all goes happily and what they learn causes some to develop serious regrets.
The couples return to their real spouses and try to adjust to life back home, attempting to avoid falling back into their old bad habits.
The couples have reunited and are now faced with a decision of a lifetime - do they want to recommit to their marriage, or is it time to part ways for good?
