not planed. TV Show was canceled.
True Southern cooking is an act of love, and Chef Damaris Phillips takes on the traditions of the South with achievable, bright recipes designed to help build confidence for new cooks. Southern at Heart captures her infectious spirit and celebrates the flavors of Kentucky, where locally sourced special ingredients and romantic backstories are turned into sure-fire crowd pleasers that will inspire anyone to elevate their cooking.
Damaris is hosting a late night feast, inspired by a lively zombie walk she saw in Louisville. A stunning Red Wine Spaghetti With Meatballs is followed by the perfect sweet treat, her decadent Banana Pudding. There's also Mulled Wine for her costumed party guests to sip on.
Friday night means football in Kentucky, and Chef Damaris loves to tailgate. She whips up some perfect comfort food for the game: Pulled Pork Nachos with Avocado Sour Cream, plus even dessert has a tailgate twist, with her divinely chewy Barbecue Brownies.
Damaris Phillips shows off her unique take on traditional Southern picnic fare with her Bourbon-Brined Fried Chicken, Braised Red Cabbage and a decadent wine-infused White Mac and Cheese. It's all packed up and taken to the track, where it's time to eat, party and watch the horse races.
Damaris and her friends have a yearly "friends-giving" celebration, where they all gather donning their comfy clothes and eat and watch movies all day. Damaris prepares some great casseroles for this stress-free dinner party: Turkey and Stuffing Casserole, Green Bean and Smashed Potato Casserole and Sweet Potato Crumble.
On Thursdays, Damaris goes out swing dancing. This week, she invites her boyfriend to join her for a light and easy weeknight dinner of Black-Eyed Pea Salad with Fried Kalamata Olives and Parsnip, Acorn Squash Stuffed With Sausage, Barley and Goat Cheese, and "Dance the Night Away" Energy bars to enliven their spirits before the dance and keep them light on their feet.
For their joint birthday party, Damaris throws the ultimate karaoke party with her best friend, Sam. Damaris makes easy appetizers and set-it-and-forget-it foods to keep the prep simple for her own party! While Sam sets up the singing lounge, Damaris cooks up Fish Taco Bites, Cheesecake Lollipops and Butter Bean Hummus.
The Phillips family has an annual tradition of making and exchanging delicious and practical gift baskets and this year, Damaris is making simple, yet impressive, pantry staples to give as gifts and uses them in recipes to feed her crew. First, her homemade Bourbon Vanilla Extract serves as the base for decadent Spoon Fudge. Her homemade Stake Sauce is the perfect stuff to pour over Prime Rib Burgers and Kale Caesar Salad is topped with Cornbread Croutons.
Damaris and her beau, Darrick, have been getting bridge lessons from Damaris's 99-year-old Grampy. Over an intimate card game, they'll enjoy Creamy Tomato Soup and Grilled Pimento Cheese Sandwiches and Grampy's favorite dessert -- Pineapple Upside-Down Cake.
