The Swamp People featured in this History series are the proud descendants of French Canadian refugees who settled in the swamp region of Louisiana in the 18th century. Cameras follow members of this fiercely independent group as they struggle to preserve their way of life in the Atchafalaya Basin during the most important time of the year for them: alligator-hunting season.

One team fights a dangerous territory called The Pipeline; another team attempts to capture an infamous line popping gator called The Phantom.
One team baits their lines with a gator bait recipe called Surf and Turf; a second team hunts their last tags of the season on an ATV; another team finds themselves hindered by an unknown intruder who is hanging lines in their territory.
Swamp grass and lily fields stop hunters in their tracks, forcing Swampers to adapt and salvage their day. When one team's prized honey hole is blocked by reeds, they rely on a secret luring technique. A second hunter dedicates his final tag to catch a monster named "Cujo", while another team faces dangerous confrontations caused by a disrupted landscape.
One team burns sage to help them end their bad luck; a second team searches for inspiration from a local church; a third is determined to outdo their father by catching a massive monster.
One hunter challenges his sons to a contest to see who can catch the largest gator; another hunter reassembles her team once again to help her tag out.
