Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live your life off the grid? Have you wished you could shed the complications of modern society and live in the wilderness, using only the things nature has provided? Meet Eustace Conway, Tom Oar and Marty Meierotto of the new History series Mountain Men, three men who have devoted their lives to survival in its simplest form. But how simple is it really for the Mountain Men?From the rugged Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina to the seven-month-long winters on the Yaak River in Montana to the frigid northern range of Alaska, the country is full of some very unforgiving terrain. Watch as these men face off against mudslides, falling trees, ravaging weather and even hungry animals, to make sure they obtain the food and supplies they will need to make it through the brutal winter months ahead.
Mike braves icy waters to catch snow crabs living on the seafloor hundreds of feet below the surface; Bret and Ivy travel uncharted terrain to create a new trail, and build a log bridge to cross a deep creek; Tom and Nancy apply their craftsmanship skills to help a local charity; Paul constructs a trapping sled and takes it on a punishing journey to a remote beaver pond; Jake sets traps for bobcats in pursuit of their valuable hides.
In Alaska, Marty Meierotto makes a final push into the brutally cold conditions of his trapline to harvest the last of his furs, snap his trap, and fly home to his family. Mike Horstman carves a road into the side of a steep ridge to gain better access to prime hunting grounds. Daniel Peters pilots his boat through shallow waters and raging tidal currents while on a risky mission to trap wolves on the islands of Southeast. In Montana, Jake Herak faces an emergency on the mountain when his dogs brawl with an aggressive lion. Meanwhile, Paul Antczak overcomes a snowmobile breakdown to venture deeper into the forest near his new homestead, setting traps for bobcats and marten.
Lauro begins the 1,000-mile Iditarod with his sixteen-dog team, pitted against harsh conditions and rugged terrain in one of the toughest races on earth. Bret and Ivy ascend into the Alaska Range on a high altitude grizzly bear hunt. Jake returns to the mountain after a dangerous encounter to continue his pursuit of a killer tom lion. Paul makes the final run of his trapline, and delivers a bounty of fur to a local trading post.
Lauro continues his quest to complete the Iditarod through the frozen interior of Alaska. Bret and Ivy pursue a bear into dangerously steep terrain. Daniel sets traps for wolves to protect the fragile deer population in the Southeast. Jake puts a marathon chase on a massive tomcat, ending in a showdown with the killer they've chased all winter.
