The Mod Squad is a police drama that features three young, hip crime fighters. One White, One Black, One Blonde, was the promotional hype line. The casting was intended to appeal to a youthful, counterculture audience. The basic premise was that the youthful investigators were offered work fighting crime as an alternative to being incarcerated themselves. The show's primary premise centered on the three cops using their youthful, hippie personas as a guise to get close to the criminals they investigated. The show was moderately popular during its initial run of five seasons. The show portrayed a multicultural society and dealt with issues of racial politics, drug culture, and counterculture.The series earned six Emmy Award nominations, four Golden Globe nominations plus one win for Peggy Lipton, one Directors Guild of America Award, and four Logies.
When Greer is seriously hurt by phony cops (one of these a drug dealer whom Greer had previously apprehended), and four suitcases of heroin belonging to a crime syndicate are stolen, Sgt. Ed Lassiter leads the Squad on their most challenging assignment ever, looking at every possible connection.
Pete and Julie risk their lives gathering evidence of the syndicate's plan of distributing the heroin while attending an upscale party of one of its henchmen. And Sgt. Lassiter harbors a dark secret that would not only affect his career, but also his future.
The Squad investigates when a youth joins a motorcycle gang, plots a fake payroll robbery of his father's company and learns the other gang members are playing it for real.
The Squad witnesses a shoplifting by a badly scarred woman and arranges plastic surgery, believing it would prevent her from a life of crime.
A fur coat is the only lead the trio has in a case involving kidnapping and murder that has them baffled.
The trio searches for Julie's cousin, a Vietnam veteran who missed his stop when he took the bus home.
The brother of a fur thief attempts to kill Pete, holding him responsible for his brother's death. Meanwhile, a blind childhood friend of Pete's returns home for an operation that would give her the ability to see, although her surgeon fears the positive results may not be permanent.
A police lieutenant involved in a jewel theft ring murders an informer and plants evidence implicating Pete as the killer.
When Greer is framed as being on the take, the Squad begins an investigation to clear his name. Complicating things is a boy who became handicapped after being injured by Greer a few years earlier during a shootout.
A rash of car thefts appear to be connected to a particular radio station and a puzzling code. Pete becomes friends with the car thief while Julie and Linc check out the station.
When a con man takes a little old lady friend of Linc's for $600, Pete and Julie assume the roles of a wealthy young couple to lure the bad guy.
The Squad matches wits with a group of students with genius IQs responsible for bizarre headline making robberies.
A Korean girl finds trouble in her search for her American father. Pete accidentally hits her with his car after she runs from the scene of a murder she witnessed, and the killers are still after her.
The squad must determine if a former child star is a klutz or a target for murder.

A little girl's father gets in trouble with jewel thieves just before Christmas. He leaves his daughter with Pete, an old friend, but then doesn't return for her as promised, and the trio tries to find him.
Julie is hit by a truck after collecting evidence against a mobster. Though her injuries are not serious, she is kept in the hospital for her protection. But she is still in danger from people working for the syndicate who want to keep her from testifying.
A friend of Linc's is caught in the clutches of loan sharks and forced to set Linc up for elimination.
Although a stepfather confesses to child beating, the Squad believes the mother is guilty.
Linc takes an undercover job as a high steel construction worker to find his friend's murderer.
The trio investigates a euthanasia that may turn out to be murder. The accused man, who killed his terminally ill wife, claims she was in intolerable pain, but doctors say she was receiving too much morphine to be suffering that much.
Pete and Linc witness a kidnapping of a son of a newspaper publisher, but his father refuses to report the abduction to the police. After Greer and the Squad got involved, it was revealed that an ex-servant of the publisher was involved.
Convalescing in the home of a doctor and his wife, Julie is terrorized by a man who vows to kill everyone in the house.
The visit of Captain Greer's eccentric Uncle Max, a Greek painter, coincides with a series of art thefts. The robberies are baffling police as the guards can recall no one entering or leaving the galleries.
The Squad helps prevent a $1 million heist masterminded by an ex-con whose pregnant wife is an unknowing victim of cervical cancer.
