Jonah, Talia, and their four-year old daughter, Renny, move to Berlin to start over - only to find out that they might be able to escape Israel, but they can't escape themselves. Based on the real-life experiences of series creator, Dana Idisis, "Berlin Blues" is a nuanced comedy about the challenges of moving to a new city and the complexities of Israeli Jews relocating to the country that just decades ago orchestrated their persecution. Jonah - a classical musician and oboe player - has always dreamed of playing with a prestigious world orchestra. But instead, he finds himself nearing forty, working as a private music teacher, and feeling that there's no place for him as an oboe player in Israel. Jonah's sense of professional failure and resulting financial hardships rouse fantasies of relocating to Berlin, a privilege made possible by the German citizenship he inherited from his grandparents. He convinces his wife, Talia, to join him. As a writer, Talia happily embraces Jonah's request to move to Berlin, thinking she will find inspiration for her second book. The relocation is thrilling, and materializes precisely at the right time. But Berlin turns out to be far from what the couple had prophesied; while Jonah flourishes as a member of a German orchestra, Talia struggles to write and feel at home. "Berlin Blues" tackles trials and tribulations of moving to a new city, a new home, and making new friends in a country vastly different from one's own - a never-ending set of hurdles.
Jonah, an oboe player who can't find his place in Israel, convinces his wife Talia to move to Germany with their young daughter. While Jonah flourishes and feels like he belongs, Talia has difficulty adapting to the alienating German culture.
Jonah goes on his first trip with the German orchestra and tries to feel at home with his new friends until history momentarily rears its head. Meanwhile, in Berlin, Talia tries to adjust to everyday life and encounters difficulties with writing her new book.
Talia tries to get out of the crisis with the help of a group of Berliners who shed a new light on her life in Berlin. On their recommendation, she takes Jonah for an intimate couple's getaway at a nude spa, but there Jonah gives her surprising news.
Jonah's mother arrives for her first visit to Germany. Her loathing of Germany and Germans finds a surprising ally in the person of Zuri. Meanwhile, in the midst of his marital crisis with Talia, Jonah grows closer to Anna, the viola player in the orchestra.
Talia arrives alone to visit her homeland. The idea of returning to live in Israel appeals to her, but then her little brother Gadi enters the picture.
Back in Berlin, Talia celebrates the launch of the German translation of "Mayain" but is shaken by a surprising phone call from Israel. Jonah, who is about to sign another year's contract with the orchestra, is forced to deal with an incident that comes from an unexpected direction.
