Home Improvement was about Tim "The Toolman" Taylor, host of the home-improvement show "Tool Time," definitely is not as handy at home as he is on screen. He and his wife, Jill, raise three boys who are racing toward adulthood. The Taylor family often relies on next-door neighbor Wilson, who provides unconventional wisdom and perspective to the Taylors' personal and familial crises.
Jill is laid off from work and Tim is less than considerate to her.
Tim criticizes Jill when she scratches her car, then has a major mishap with her car involving a crane on a Tool Time shoot site.
After Harry has a heart attack at the hardware store while Tim is there, Tim starts having problems.
Mark is being inattentive at school and is not talking to Tim and Jill about what is causing the problems at school.
Tim's brother pays a visit to Tim and reveals that he is thinking about leaving his wife and kids.

Tim is reunited with his old high school shop teacher and invites him to a guest appearance on 'Tool Time'. Tim then pushes him and his teacher gets mad at Tim during the show.
Jill accidentally leaves Tim's hot rod out in a blizzard when she moves it out of the garage to do some painting. She then blames Tim for her leaving the car outside.
When Jill's parents arrive, bickering as they come in the door, Jill tries to help them and ends up causing a big fight dragging a unwilling Tim into it in the process.
Brad takes on a paper route, then delivers the news that it is more than he can handle.
Tim sells the hot rod that Brad has been helping him work on for years; Randy endures shopping with his mother. Jay Leno has a cameo as a mechanic.
Jill's illness conflicts with the Superbowl party that Tim has planned for months.

Tim and his sister in-law accidentally see each other naked when his brother and wife come to visit.
Tim and two bachelors from his audience discuss wives and girlfriends, while their women tune in at home.
Tim and Al have plans for a hockey night at the arena only to discover that the girls have plans for them to go to see Waiting For Godot with them. They are then arrested when Tim attempts to sell the hockey tickets he can no longer use.
Tim spends a sleepless night watching his favorite "Tool Time" episodes as a result of overeating Polish food that does not agree with him.

Visiting relatives cause problems for Jill, Tim and Al.
