The show centers on the taping of them while shooting their TV show "The Happy Funtime Hour". When an actor who was hired to play an eccentric scientist (the late Maury Chaykin) assumes the personality the character after a powerful and addictive hallucinogen derived from local berries is introduced, things get a bit scary. That is when chaos ensues and the cast of the variety show ingests the drugs as well. They begin to believe they are the characters in real life and they portray them on the show throughout the small town.
