Vice President JD Vance said Sunday that despite the U.S. strikes on Iran's nuclear sites last night, the U.S. is not at war with Iran. Tom Cotton the chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee said Sunday that the United States must "be prepared for Iran to retaliate" following Saturday night's strikes targeting three Iranian nuclear facilities. Rep. Jim Himes, the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, said it was too early to know the success of a series of U.S. attacks against Iran -- calling the strikes a "massive gamble" on the part of President Donald Trump and citing past U.S. military action in the region.

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore defended his rhetoric against President Donald Trump over crime in his home city of Baltimore amid an escalating feud between the two leaders. Former Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) immunizations chief Dr. Demetre Daskalakis said Sunday that he's concerned with the direction the agency is going and worried about public health going forward. Tom Emmer said Sunday that Minnesota laws should have prevented the suspect from purchasing a gun that allowed them to kill two children and wound more than a dozen other people in a shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church in Emmer's home state. Gov. Spencer Cox, R-Utah, said Sunday that the suspect in the shooting that killed conservative activist Charlie Kirk is not cooperating with authorities. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson defended labeling this weekend's "No Kings" rallies opposing President Donald Trump as "hate America" rallies, arguing that he was not referring to Democrats themselves but the message of the protesters. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has not endorsed New York Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani, the frontrunner in the New York City mayoral race with the election less than three weeks away, but says he plans to "have more to say about the mayor's race" in the next week. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that he reached a "substantial framework" for trade talks between the U.S. and China ahead of a meeting between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday -- potentially averting hefty tariffs on imported Chinese goods. Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly said Sunday that the legality of the Trump administration sending an aircraft carrier battle group to waters around Central and South America is "questionable." The move comes as the U.S. military carried out its 10th strike on an alleged Venezuelan drug boat, all of them in international waters. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy warned Sunday that flights across the country could be delayed or even canceled due to the ongoing government shutdown as staffing shortages at air traffic control facilities spread nationwide. As the negative impacts of the 33-day government shutdown compound, Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine said Sunday he doesn't see the present funding impasse in terms of politics, insisting what Democrats are "focused on is the American people." Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Sunday that there is no formal proposal from the White House to defund the Affordable Care Act and instead send money directly to Americans, despite a social media post from President Donald Trump on Saturday promoting such a plan. Sen. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem said that authorities believe the suspected shooter who they say opened fire on National Guardsmen in Washington, D.C., last week might have been radicalized after he arrived in the United States.
