Next Episode of Watzmann ermittelt is
Season 6 / Episode 5 and airs on 04 February 2026 17:50
The series is about Chief Inspector Benedikt Beissl (Andreas Giebel), who lives in Berchtesgaden with his wife Elisabeth and three daughters Maria, Johanna and Eva. Beissl has been ensuring law and order in Berchtesgaden for decades. To his displeasure, one day he was given a new colleague. So far, the solitary inspector has loved to do his thing alone. His new colleague Jerry Paulsen (Peter Marton) is the son of a black GI and the daughter of an innkeeper from Bad Aibling. He is quite daring and able to work in a team and moved from Hamburg to Bavaria for reasons of love. But Jerry's chosen one is, of all people, Beissl's daughter Johanna. The two police commissioners have to solve a murder in the area in each episode. The locally rooted Beissl often knows the victims as well as their surroundings and potential perpetrators.
Beissl's dentist, the passionate (big game) hunter Dr. Björn Heckerl, is found dead in the basement of his villa, bound and gagged, by his long-time girlfriend Gabriele. At first glance, nothing seems to be missing from the house, which presents investigators with a major mystery. Gabriele, who runs a restaurant, has a rock-solid alibi. And Heckerl's daughter Michaela can also prove through posts on social media that she was not at home at the time of death.
However, an older post by Michaela leads investigators to discover that something is missing from the house: the head of the rhinoceros Jambo, whose horn fetches high prices on the black market. The post is followed by a storm of criticism against the hunter, with forest ranger Helga Lohberger, whose son Sven still lives with her, standing out in particular. Did she want to punish Heckerl for his hunting? Or are international gangs specializing in such burglaries behind it?
On his morning drive to work, Jerry discovers the body of a young woman who has been strangled. The victim worked as a physical therapist at the winter sports training center. Two ski jumpers quickly become the focus of the investigation. Both the athletes and their coach, who had a relationship with the victim, reject the suspicion against them. Beissl and Jerry also encounter further resistance: the jumpers' mothers do everything they can to torpedo the investigation against their sons.
Despite all the interventions, Beissl and Jerry manage to uncover the background to the crime. A few days before the murder, the two jumpers were driving with the murder victim at night – and hit a pedestrian. Instead of taking care of the seriously injured person, they committed a hit-and-run. The next day, the murdered woman was overcome with guilt. She wanted to report the accident – and was killed on her way to the police. Who became the murderer to prevent a scandal? The two jumpers come under increasing pressure.
The detectives are dealing with an unusual case: the husband of successful real estate agent Birgit Leibold reports his wife as kidnapped. Detective Beissl is skeptical, wondering whether Klaus Leibold himself might be involved—especially when it turns out that the agent's facade is more appearance than reality: Birgit Leibold is broke! Is the husband now trying to get back on his feet financially by staging a fake kidnapping?
The unusual ransom sum leads the detectives' investigations into the real estate world. A secret deal between the agent and her best friend, Veronika Berger, presents the detectives with a mystery. But then the agent's former employee, Quirin Steiner, becomes the focus of the investigation: a bitter dispute rages between him and Birgit over commissions and reputation.
Georg Reitinger, a journalist at the Berchtesgadener Anzeiger newspaper, is found dead under a bridge. Beissl and Jerry learn from Sissi Fischer, an intern at the newspaper, that Reitinger had recently been receiving anonymous calls and threats. Could his death be related to his work as a journalist?
Johanna is particularly keen to solve this case. Reitinger was her colleague. She secretly begins to investigate herself. The detectives discover that Reitinger had recently uncovered an environmental scandal in the Auerbach Au. But the ongoing investigation proves difficult. All the suspects seem to have alibis.
Only when it turns out that Reitinger had been writing restaurant reviews on a local blog do Beissl and Jerry make progress in this tricky case. An unfinished review by Reitinger leads them to the restaurant "Nouvelle Cuisine," among other places, where things are not quite right...
Golf coach Toni Brendel is found dead on the Berchtesgaden golf course. Everything points to murder. Toni Brendel, who wanted to influence the future of the golf club with ambitious construction plans, did not have only friends. Club president Julius Greiner, who wanted to prevent Toni's plans and whose reputation was damaged by Toni's slander, is just as much a suspect as Toni's betrayed wife Pia Brendel and his mistress Franziska Schachtner.
In the course of the investigation, many motives and clues emerge, but there is no evidence. Only after Toni's past has been examined more closely and Beissl has resorted to an unconventional criminalistic ruse can the perpetrator be unmasked.
Behind the popular Bergblick restaurant, an elderly lady in an elegant suit is found dead by the waitress in the morning. She has a wound on her temple and a hematoma on her wrist. Beissl recognizes the dead woman as Alma Reger, a helpful town hall employee and mother of teacher Florian Reger. The waitress remembers that the deceased had been a guest there several times with a "younger" man. The day before, a table had been reserved for 5 p.m. in the name of Reger.
The pathologist determines the preliminary time of death to be midnight, but the cause of death is still unclear. A torn pearl necklace and a handbag are found on the premises.
The detectives begin investigating the next of kin, but Alma Reger had been living in an upscale retirement home for years after receiving an inheritance. There, a Romanian caregiver turns out to be her boyfriend.
The owner of a newly renovated hotel is found dead. He fell to his death from the window of his office. The safe in the office has been broken into. Everything points to a robbery-murder. Beissl and Jerry quickly come up with a possible motive: the victim consistently refused to pay the tradesmen involved in the renovation.
Beissl and Jerry are confident that they will find the murderer among the cheated craftsmen. One of the victims increasingly becomes the focus of the investigation: a master carpenter who is a friend of Beissl's. But the resolute boss of the painting company is also under suspicion. Did she take the money from the safe? Both firmly reject the suspicions. But what if it wasn't one of the craftsmen? The hotel's long-time concierge also comes under scrutiny in the investigation.
Jerry Paulsen is on his way to a training course when the brakes on his company car fail and he ends up in a ditch. Fortunately, he gets away with a few minor scrapes. Beissl discovers Jerry's sports bag full of drugs in the car and has to investigate. Jerry vehemently denies having anything to do with the drugs and suspects that someone is trying to frame him. Could everyone have been so wrong about Jerry?
Johanna's mistrust also grows when she realizes that Jerry has not always been honest with her. He tries his best to prove his innocence. In the process, he and Johanna find themselves in mortal danger and a mysterious death occurs.
The owner of a bicycle shop is found dead in his store by his girlfriend Steffi and his employee Tom Lehnert. Steffi's ex-boyfriend quickly comes under suspicion by Beissl and Jerry. He clearly hasn't gotten over the breakup and has been stalking her.
The deceased also owed a good friend a lot of money, which the friend demanded back shortly before his death. But it is only when the detectives take a closer look at Tom Lehnert's past that they track down the murderer.
The residents of Berchtesgaden are amazed – dozens of Santa Clauses are populating their town center in the middle of summer. Two men take advantage of the commotion to rob a jewelry store. Shortly afterwards, a dead Santa Claus is found. Is it one of the robbers? Who knew about the flash mob?
Only when the detectives discover that an employee of the jeweler is having an extramarital affair do they come one step closer to solving this curious case.
Doris Renz, divorce lawyer and soloist in a well-known amateur choir, is found murdered. It quickly becomes clear that the victim was rather unpopular in the choir, and Jerry even suspects bullying. The choir member Nina Golling in particular had a bone to pick with the deceased, who had been the choir's soloist for years. Did she eliminate her rival?
But other choir members also had a motive to kill the woman. Were they driven to commit the crime by the agitation? It is thanks in no small part to Johanna that the detectives' attention is drawn to a new lead, which ultimately leads to the solution of the case.
Gustl Herzog, a wealthy and influential souvenir dealer from Berchtesgaden, is found stabbed to death. Herzog's biggest competitor, Beppi Kofler, quickly comes under suspicion.
But it is only when the detectives notice how similar the crime is to the old legend of King Watzmann and Beissl receives valuable clues from his wife that the case takes a dramatic turn.
Anton Gerg, head of the renowned carpentry and woodcarving school in Berchtesgaden, is found murdered in the school's wood storage area. The first lead points to Marc Bleyer, a former student of Gerg's who was recently expelled from his design class.
When it turns out that Bleyer is having an affair with Gerg's wife Sabrina, the detectives suspect a murder plot. But then it emerges that the highly acclaimed designer put his students under enormous pressure and passed off their ideas as his own. Could this be the key to solving the case?
Jan Gruber, who is confined to a wheelchair, witnesses his idol, professional paraglider Mike Bischoff, known for his daring records, fall to his death. He is certain that it was no accident. The detectives' investigations increasingly confirm this suspicion.
Did Bischoff's girlfriend Nadja Seidel not cope with the sudden breakup and take revenge? Or did the ongoing conflict with his long-time business partner escalate? But then Beissl and Jerry discover that the fallen professional was terminally ill and had only one big wish left...
